Frank Kuo become member of Sports and Sustainable Development Committee

It is our great pleasure to share with you that Frank Kuo (TPE) was selected to become member of Sports and Sustainable Development Committee of Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee. Frank is well known for organizing ultra events, he is working very closely with IAU for number of years and playing key role in the IAU Communication Committee, IAU Technical Committee and IAU Award Committee.

Frank said, I am invited as a member of “sports and sustainable development committee” of Chinese Taipei Olympic committee. This committee aims to promoting sustainable development of sport and using sport for promoting sustainable development in society.

In March 2022, Taiwan officially published “Taiwan’s Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions in 2050”, which provides the action pathway to achieve “2050 Net-Zero Emissions”. The sports events are essential for human society, but we, the sports promoters, have the obligation to cut down the Carbon footprint number. The purpose of calculating Carbon footprint of a race is like we need to know the current weight while we aim to lose weight.

I made efforts to establish the Carbon footprint calculation standard of staging a running race in the past two years. The CFP-PCR, based on ISO14067, has been approved by Environment Protection administration.  From now on, we can derive two real numbers, how many Kg CO2e / person per kilometer and the total number of kg CO2e the race produced in every race. And base on it, we can then develop the green race labelling system like the IAU labelling system we have. To encourage the race organizers calculating Carbon footprint, I also connect the enterprises which are exercising ESG to contribute a funding which pay for calculating and certificating fee.
