Summary 2021 IAU 6H Virtual Global Solidarity Weekend

October of last year, we announced that IAU 6H Virtual Global Solidarity Weekend would become an annual event taking place on the 3rd weekend of March each year. This was to continue our celebration of our community to be together in difficult times.

Therefore, on March 20th – 21st we held our second edition of IAU 6H Virtual Global Solidarity Weekend. Due to the COVID-19 situation during the early part of 2021 we have had to cancel international championships until the end of September. So the Global Solidarity event would again be the motivating force for our community for the first half of the year. This proved to be the case and exceeded our expectations.

As, in 2020, we were impressed with the responses and we had a stunning total of 34 teams taking part in the event. This included the IAU and Presidents Club Teams as well. 298 runners took part and completed over 18,000 km with average over 60.5 km per athlete. This was a great improvement compared to 2020 where the average was above 46 km. Thank you for your commitment and dedication.

Although the top priority was to show our solidarity as a community, there were also some incredibly competitive performances amongst the results.   Fantastic performance and great camaraderie.

However, this was not all.  In the end it was not only runners but the great number of supporters that took part in this initiative and were motivated by others. Thank you for this as well.

We would like to thank you all for sharing the results, great pictures, notes, reports, following our event on social media and contributions to all publications. In the end all the results were published and shared with you. Great - all really appreciated.

You all have once again accepted, embraced and honoured the event that is quickly becoming a tradition for us. Thank you for spreading this feeling of global solidarity across the world. Each and every one of you is part of this IAU Family and you have proudly represented our beautiful sport on the global arena. Thank you again for making us all proud! Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, Stay Motivated!

Nadeem Khan, IAU President

Thank you and see you in 2022
