On April 5, 2025, the Academy Jentschura in Münster hosted an enlightening International and Interdisciplinary Symposium titled "A New Understanding of the Role of Sports Medicine." This event brought together leading experts from across the globe to discuss innovative aspects of prevention, performance enhancement, and rehabilitation in high-performance sports.

Among the distinguished attendees were three members of the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) Medical Committee, including Chair Matthias Reick and member Beatrice Constandache. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration in advancing sports medicine practices. Nadeem Khan, IAU President took part of the Symposium as well presenting, "Transversing Leadership in Healthcare through Change Management".

The symposium featured two notable presentations focused on ultrarunning, delivered by Beatrice Constandache and Matt Reick. These sessions highlighted the unique challenges faced by ultrarunners and the importance of tailored medical approaches to enhance performance and ensure athlete well-being. The insights shared by Constandache and Reick were invaluable, offering fresh perspectives on how sports medicine can adapt to the evolving demands of endurance sports.

Dr. Ulrich Frohberger, a prominent sports physician in Münster emphasized the necessity of integrating sports medicine principles into the broader context of health and performance. With a background in various high-performance sports, Dr. Frohberger advocates for causal regenerative therapy aimed at stabilizing, restoring, and optimizing physical performance and endurance.

The venue, the newly opened Jentschura Academy, is dedicated to training health professionals in promoting an alkaline diet and healthy lifestyles, complementing the event's focus on innovative health practices. The academy's facilities, including a hydrotherapy bath department, are utilized by numerous athletes, including the USC Münster volleyball women’s Bundesliga team and various track and field athletes.

With participants from the USA, Germany, Romania, the UK, Portugal, and beyond, the symposium fostered a rich exchange of ideas among doctors, therapists, athletes, and trainers. The discussions centered on current developments in sports medicine and innovative approaches to athlete care, paving the way for future advancements in the field.

As the symposium concluded, the collaborative spirit and shared commitment to enhancing sports medicine practices left a lasting impact on all attendees, inspiring continued dialogue and cooperation in the pursuit of athlete health and performance excellence.
