IAU President, Nadeem Khan took the opportunity during the 31st IAU 100 km World Championships and set up an meeting with Member Federations from Eastern Europe. There were representation from 9 countries, Romania, Latvia, Poland, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia and Kosovo.
The main objective of the meeting was to discuss current situation in the countries, relationship with Federations, support. In the second part of the meeting we discuss development for the region.
It was very constructive and friendly discussion. The majority of countries mentioned difficulties related to current geo-political situation that has an impact on the support to participate in championships. There were some good examples how to improve interactions and try to get better support for the athletes and team management.
This was a very important meeting as it gave us an opportunity to discuss the situation post-Covid in the region. The discussion encompassed the ultrarunning performances in the countries, the challenges faced in respective nations and the possibility of further collaboration in the region to develop the sport.
