The IAU shares with deep sadness that funeral arrangements have now been announced for Malcolm Campbell, our founding President and Honorary Life President, who passed away peacefully on 17th March 2026, aged 91.
A service to celebrate Malcolm’s life will take place at Grantham Crematorium on Tuesday, 21st April 2026 at 3:30pm.
The family requests no flowers, and donations in Malcolm’s memory may be made to Parkinson’s UK.

Malcolm was a pioneering ultrarunner whose achievements helped shape the early history of our sport. His performances included a 420‑miles distance in a six‑day race, victory in the Blackburn 24‑hour event, a 3,559‑mile run across the United States, and a 1,000‑mile finish at Gateshead.
As the first President of the IAU, Malcolm played a central role in establishing the international structure that supports ultrarunning today. His leadership, vision, and dedication laid the foundations on which the global ultrarunning community continues to grow.
He is remembered with great affection and respect by athletes, officials, and friends around the world. The IAU extends its heartfelt condolences to his wife Marilyn, his children Martin, Fiona and David, and his entire family.
Malcolm’s legacy will endure in the sport he helped build and in the countless lives he inspired.
