Condolences to the families and the ultrarunning community in China
We on the IAU Council and the greater IAU family send our deepest condolences to the families and the ultrarunning community in China on the tragedy that stuck the nation today.
As reported by local media 21 ultrarunners passed away during the Huanghe Shilin Mountain Marathon in the Northwest region of the country. Officials have stated weather changed dramatically during the race leading to this tragedy.

These condolences notes are always a difficult time for me. However, the sadness becomes overwhelming when they have to be written for athletes who pass away in tragedies doing what they truly believe in. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and the ultrarunning community in China who have lost these runners.
