World Athletics, in partnership with the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA), the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU), and the International Trail Running Association (ITRA), has released preliminary information for the 2027 World Mountain & Trail Running Championships (WMTRC), which will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from 6–10 October 2027.
The event will bring together the world's leading mountain and trail runners to compete across five championship disciplines in one of the most spectacular mountain running destinations in the world.
The Local Organising Committee has provided initial details on athlete quotas and course characteristics to assist Member Federations in their planning and preparation. Further information, including final course details and entry procedures, will be communicated in due course.
