6hrs of Stijn Van Lokeren with 88,68 km

03:40 awoke... From 06:00 I started eating my sugar sandwich. Lieselotte was transforming our bike into a supply cargobike with food and drinks for me (coffee cakes) and the followers (water and gellekes)... Or was it the other way around.

08:59 A quick pee and the virtual starting shot... The first few kilometres with the wind to calmly get into the starting pace... My head and body still had to calm down... Spleen problems after 2km... The stress had yet to subside. Charlotte, our youngest club member, came along for the first loop which was certainly a help. Meanwhile, father Koen had started an impressive photo-reportage.

Not long after Charlotte and her parents left, Mathieu suddenly arrived with his mountain bike and before I knew it, I had been eating and drinking for 2 hours... And walking, too.

Paul came along for the third hour of the race, an hour where the pace could be increased to prevent the body from becoming lazy and to put a different strain on the muscles. I finished the first marathon (2h47'30") and the first 3h (45.4km) without any injuries and with a good feeling. Lieselotte, who cycled at my side the entire race (thank you very much), made sure I didn't have to think, food and drinks were provided according to plan. A fantastic tandem that I get to enjoy every day, in everything we do!

Jan, in the past my wingman in important trails, quit after 3 hours and coach Bart took his place. In the meantime, the encouragement of my running partner Nina (who had just finished a tough training) was heard for the first time.

After 4h30 and 67km, when I fortunately had Davy to support me, the hardest moment of my race came. It is only now that I can name it. It was the realisation that I could no longer play with the pace, but that the pace would start to play with me (just like the wind, which was strong). But everything is relative, I was still running well above 14km/h, a pace that I did not have to sacrifice a single kilometre on until 80km.

Lieselotte's enthusiasm and encouragement kept pushing me forward. And Bart gave the right tips in a very calm and subtle way... Just the way I like it (after working together for a year, he already knows me very well).

A double marathon... That was what I had set myself as a milestone with which I would be satisfied in my first 6h 'race'. After 5h41'30" I had reached 84.4 (or a second marathon in 2h54)... Everything else was a fantastic bonus...

And just at that moment, Nina Lauwaert came running along with the motivating words: "keep on running, I can beat my day's record on one training day". I assure you... Then you won't even think about slowing down.

Meanwhile, Martine (you couldn't be missing), just like those who had encouraged me in the morning, had rejoined me... Nobody wanted to miss the end... What a beautiful setting... Davy and Nina ahead of me and then 6 cyclists around me (nicely within the corona measures)... In the meantime, for an hour and a half, a fantastic motivational mix sounded through the music box that we had brought along.

After 88.68km #TimeToFly, when Parc du Héro(n) came in sight, I could click stop. Thanks for all the encouragement before and during the expedition and the congratulations afterwards.
