We are very pleased to announce that the 2022 IAU 100 km World Championships were granted to Berlin/Bernau, Germany. The Championships will take place on August 27th, 2022 and they will be organized by German Ultramarathon Union (DUV) in conjunction with German Athletics Federation (DLV).
Berlin as one of the world wide top tourist destinations will be hosting the delegations and Bernau will host the championship. Bernau is especially known for The ADGB Trade Union School in Bernau-Waldfrieden as one of the three architectonic BAUHAUS UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES in Germany. The start and the finish of the championship will be located in the heart of this unique architectonic assembly.
Like Berlin, Bernau was founded in the 13th century. The town developed quite a reputation far beyond Brandenburg for its cloth and its beer and it flourished. Even today, the impressive 8m (26 ft.) city walls and the ramparts testify to the defensive measures once taken to protect the city. A historical showcase is the Hussite Festival. Every year in June, people in medieval clothes gather in “Bernauer Stadtpark”, turning it into a market fair with tournament. Knights demonstrate their riding skills, while other eagerly peddle their wares.
In the past, members of the LOC organized numerous ultramarathon events like the annual 100 Mile race along the former Berlin Wall, 50 and 100K as well as 24h races. The LOC combines dedication towards the ultramarathon and great experience to host such a race.
The IAU and the LOC welcome you to participate in these Championships! We are convinced that the experienced LOC, together with the history and beauty of Berlin and Bernau are a great asset for hosting the IAU 100 km World Championships. You all will leave with long-lasting memories of the event and surroundings.
