Ian Cornelius passed away

Ian Cornelius passed away It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ian Cornelius from Australia. On behalf of the IAU we would like to express our sincere condolences to Ian’s family, friends and all those who knew him. Ian was known to many in the Australian and International ultra running community. He had an incredible passion for the sport and was devoted to encouraging others to participate.


"Ian was a cornerstone of the development of ultrarunning in Australia and the Oceania region. He laid the foundation that has led team Australia to compete with the best in the ultrarunning world. IAU extends its deepest condolences to Ian´s family and the ultrarunning family in Australia. He will be missed by the wider community across the globe." - Nadeem Khan, IAU President

He was an event organiser of some of Australia´s most popular ultra running events. He was also a veteran of 4 x 330 kms stage races and a contestant in the 1994 World 1,000 mile championships.

My favorite runners are.....anyone good enough to represent their country, anyone good enough to finish a race and last, but not least, anyone prepared to have a go!
