2019 IAU 50 km Africa Championship announcement.

2019 IAU 50 km Africa Championship announcement. We are very pleased to announce that the first edition of IAU 50 km Africa Championship was granted to Sagamu, Nigeria. The Championship will take place on December 7th 2019.

We are writing a new paragraph in the IAU history as this will be the first time when IAU Championship enters Africa. After successful site visit that took place recently we are excited to support the region in ultra-running development.

Nadeem Khan – IAU President

“It is very exciting for us to host our 1st African Championships in IAU´s 35 year history. We have been working on making a breakthrough in the continent for some years and this year we had an outstanding bid from Nigeria.

I want to thank our Africa Representative Solomon Ogba for his work on this bid. IAU presence in Africa will be great for the development of ultrarunning on the continent.”

It will be our pleasure to send invitation to respective Member Federations, welcome Athletes, Team Management, Officials and Supporters to the event. Please note that the General Information Sheet and Invitations will be send in due time.

It is our expectation that this Championship will be the starting point for a new stage in the development of ultra-distance in the region. Nigeria has never held an international ultra-distance championship organised by IAU so there is great excitement in the area. This is in line with our vision to make ultra-running a global event and promote running.
