2018 IAU 100K World Championship pre-race report

2018 IAU 100K World Championship pre-race report. We are approaching the third major IAU event for this year. The International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU), the Croatian Athletics Federation (CAF) and the Local Organization Committee (LOC) represented by LifeClass Terme Sveti Martin and Mayor of Sveti Martin na Muri are proud to organize the 2018 IAU 100 km World Championship on September 8th in Sveti Martin na Muri, Croatia.

Following the Tourist Board of Međimurje we can read:

"In the northern most part of Croatia, between the Drava and Mura, with green hills and rich plains, there is a charming little place called Medjimurje. Both simple and splendid, its uniqueness has always amazed people and it proudly bears the name of „Cvjetnjak Hrvatske” (Croatia’s flower garden). Just a step away from major European cities, the perfect combination of tradition and modern with a lot to offer has evolved from rich cultural-historical foundations.”

The registration for the event is completed. Based on provided data we are delighted to let you know that we will have record number of enrolled countries and athletes in the history of the IAU 100 km World Championship. This year is fantastic as we reach record for IAU Trail World Championship and IAU 24H European Championship as well. At the same event we will have WMA 100km World Championships and Croatian National 100 km Championships. It will be exciting time for all of us.

We are expecting athletes from 42 countries being 115 women and 168 men participating individually. Following last 2016 World Championship in Los Alcazares, Spain we will have 3 medalists from that event. Defending Champion Hideaki Yamauchi (JPN), second women Nikolina Sustic (CRO) and second men Bongmusa Mthembu (RSA). In the Team competition we have 31 countries for men and 22 countries for women with at least three runners from each country. One of the favorite for the Men Team competition is Japan having very strong runners with PB from 6:09 to 6:22h. Team from USA and Italy look strong as well. In the Women Team competition Japan, Croatia, Germany look strong. The remaining federation has less than three representatives registered.
