Word of The President

Word of The President: Our Executive Council had its annual meeting at the IAAF headquarters on January 22/23.

One of the most important novelties to announce is the authorisation we got from the IAAF to change the name of the 100 km World Cup into the “IAU 100 km World Championship under the patronage of the IAAF”, a decision which can be considered as a significant step forward in the international recognition of our sport.

As such will Gibraltar have the privilege to use this new title for the first time on November 7th. Other competitions which have been allocated are the 50 km World Trophy Final 2010 to Galway (IRL), the 100 km World Championship 2011 to Winschoten (NED) and the Trail World Championship 2011 to Galway/Connemara (IRL).

The 24H World Championship 2011 will be allocated in the next meeting of the Executive Council in Brive-la-Gaillarde, mid May

Applications for the 2012 and 2013 Major IAU Competitions are open from now until end September 2010 and will be considered during our annual meeting in Monaco in January 2011.

During this two day meeting a large number of important decisions have been taken about which you will be informed in due course through separate messages and announcements. We are now heading for our first competition in the new year which will be the inaugural edition of the IAU 100 km Asian Championships in Korea end March but we hope that before then we will be able to welcome the launch of our new website.

Best regards,
Dirk StrumaneIAU President
