World Athletics Shoes Regulation – application to Ultradistance

We are pleased to inform you that IAU Council have decided at its last virtual meeting (19 September 2020) the following:

  • New wording for World Athletics Technical Rule 5 should be followed in all IAU MIAUC events with the only exception that athletes can use shoes under “Road Events” specification independently of the surface where race are taking part.
  • It is recommended that all organizers of IAU Label Races follow same criteria as defined in the previous point for MIAUC events.
  • IAU will not recognize any new World Best Performance, Continental Best Performance and World Age Best Performance obtained in an event that is not following new wording of World Athletics Technical Rule 5 (with the exception mentioned in first point related to the use of shoes with “Road Events” specification independently of the surface of the event) that have started after midnight 20 October 2020 (CET).
  • In order to allow IAU Records Committee to check if the provisions of this letter have been meet at event where a potential new best performance have been done, an Athlete Shoe Declaration Form is fully completed and signed and included in the application package submitted to IAU Records Committee for any event started after midnight 20 October 2020 (CET). The WA form available at following link: WA Athlete Shoe Declaration should be used.
