Mongolia Organizes First National Ultramarathon Championships

Mongolia, one of our newest members, successfully organized the First National Championships. There were a total of 180 athletes that partipated in the weekend events. The race was organized on September 10th 2010.

A race report from the inaugural championships is listed below. The Race Report was compiled by S. Unurbayar, the General Secretary of MUMF.

The 1st National Ultra Marathon Championship, Mongolia 2010 began on 10th September 2010 though it was initially scheduled to be organized on 05th September 2010 and postponed due to the weather condition. The competition was started with the opening ceremony at 7:30 a.m in the White Arcade of Bagakhangai district’s central square, Ulaanbaatar 95 km far away from the capital and the athletes run from the start.

The championship was sponsored by Physical Culture and Sport Authority, the Capital Physical Culture and Sport Department, “Mogul-Sky” LLC, “Sanjat” LLC and “Jump XXI century” club and participated jointly.

The competition for the championship was run with a circle road of 25 km. About 180 athletes from 29 establishments participated in the competition with the following categories:
·        Age group of 18-36, male and female - 100km
·        Age group of over 50, male and female – 50km
·        Amateurs of over 16, male and female – 3km

The air temperature was +7* in the morning, +22* in the noon and +16* in the evening. The wind speed was at -4 -9m/sec.
