Race Organizer Mr. Patrick Marani passes away

It is with a heavy heart we inform our readers that Mr. Patrick Marani, Organzier and Race Director, for the Brive 24 Hour passed away last night (May7th 2010)
Mr. Marani was suffering from severe health problems and was under medical care. One of his dreams was to host the IAU 24 Hour World Championship and he worked very hard to secure and accomplish this goal. It was our hope that he would be there on May 13th to see his dreams become a reality.

We, at the IAU, offer our deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Marani, his friends and the volunteers of the Brive Organizing Committee. He touched many during his voluntary committments and he will be greatly missed by the community.

In order to continue the accomplishment of Mr. Marani’s goals, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and the town administration have sanctioned the championships to go ahead and we are in full support of their endeavour. The race will be organized as formerly scheduled.

However, please note that the opening and closing ceremonies will be somber to reflect the recent tragedy.

We appreciate your understanding during these times and we, along with the LOC, hope to put on a great competition reflecting the hard work of Mr. Patrick Marani and his supporters.
